Exchange 2003 sending "lost" emails
Hi there. We're having a strange issue with one of our clients' SBS's (2k3 running Exchange 2003). When rebooting,or restarting the Exchange information store, it will send out messages that were apparently "lost". This includes sending emails to clients outside their network, internal emails, and delivery notifications. There are no messages in the queues before reboot. Any assitance or ideas would be appriciated.

Hi lkm01, Firstly, please let me know whether the issue can be reoccurred. In other words, whether the same messages were delivered when restarting the Exchange Information Store every time. If the same messages were delivered every time when rebooting the Exchange Information Store. I suggest you check the temptables folder in the SMTP (servername-{guid}) mailbox. You can use the MFCMapi tool to check/clear the temptables folder in the SMTP (servername-{guid}) mailbox to troubleshoot the issue: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/906557/en-us I would like to explain that when a message is processed by Exchange transport, the message remains in one place while passing through the various phases and memory based queues. If the message originates from MAPI client, OWA, or the MTA, then the message remains in The SMTP (servername-{guid}) mailbox as a temporary holding place for various messages as they pass through the system. For more information, regarding the SMTP (servername-{guid}) mailbox, please refer to the following site: http://technet.microsoft.com/zh-cn/library/aa996235.aspx Mike
